This DOW chart, above, is one of the basic charts that we work our analysis from at the Price-Time Review

While most technical analysis web sites only analyze and comment on the near term time period for the stock market indexes (days to a few months), and a few others maybe use the intermediate term time period (many months to a few years), at the PTR we build a more solid foundation for our analysis by going back many decades to even a century or more.   Below is a couple of historical quotations that I think conveys our reasons for seeking as good a historical base as possible.

"I have but one lamp by which my feet are guided, and that is the lamp of experience. I know no way of judging the future but by the past. For it can surely be said that the future belongs to those who make ready for it today"   (551 BC - 479 BC)  Confucius

"Charts are records of past market movements. The future is but a repetition of the past. There is nothing new. As the Bible says " The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be." History repeats and with charts and rules we determine when and how it is going to repeat. Therefore, the first and most important point to learn is how to make charts correctly because if you make an error in the chart, you will make an error in applying the rules in your trading."

The Basis of My Forecasting Method-- The Gann Angles Course  (1943) W.D. Gann

"A building starts from a foundation,
An education starts with the basics,
The future starts from the past. "

BY THE WAY, before you move on you may want to study that DOW chart "REAL GOOD," as it identifies some key information about this index, and the whole U.S. Stock Market by proxy, that only the most informed and seasoned speculators in the World have had access to until the last decade.

While I'll not point them out and go into the details here, IF you should join our group then I can assure you that the "neon signs" I see flashing hear will become as obvious to you as they are to me...whether they end up guiding us down the "exact" path that the index will take over the next many weeks, months, and years or not.
